Matt McClure

What was your first job in the green industry? Landscaping for my Dad who was a builder and developer as a kid.

What’s the biggest challenge in your career been? Other people’s stupidity.

Who are some of the people who have influenced your career? My kids are the reason I do it.

What do you consider your biggest career success to date? Doing jobs throughout the Southeast that will stand the test of time.

If you had to do it over again, what would you do differently? I would save more of the money I have made.

If you had to pick the part you love most about your career, what would it be? I like knowing that I’m part of making things better.

How about your least favorite part? Inventory and working Saturdays.

If someone you know was going to be entering the green industry today, what advice would you give them? Get a second job in something else because the green industry likely won’t pay your bills.

Toot your own horn for a minute. What’s the one thing most responsible for your success? My desire to succeed and make money.

If you could change careers for a month, what would you do? I would be a stay at home dad.

What really annoys you? People who think everyone should have the same rewards. The ones that do all the work and those who don’t do anything should get the same. Or the people who think just because some else has a lot of something, they should share it with everybody. Or people who always want someone else to do it for them.

What are some things that you like to do when you’re not working? I love to spend time with my kids, coach their sports teams, fish, watch movies, drive around and sleep.

Give me a bit of trivia about yourself that most people probably don’t realize. That I’m really a nice person!
