In celebration of Buck Jones Nursery’s 40th Anniversary, we are highlighting our wonderful employees. Some are new and some have been with us for many years. We hope that by learning more about our history and our employees, our mission will be made clear.
What was your first job in the green industry? Salesperson at Buck Jones Nursery
What’s the biggest challenge in your career been? Overcoming a negative morale atmosphere in the workplace
Who are some of the people who have influenced your career? Dr. Harry Ponder at Auburn University
What do you consider your biggest career success to date? Steadily increasing sales in this recession
If you had to do it over again, what would you do differently? I would take more computer and business courses in college.
If you had to pick the part you love most about your career, what would it be? The long term client and vendor relationships that have formed. The green industry is filled with great people!
How about your least favorite part? Working Saturdays!
If someone you know was going to be entering the green industry today, what advice would you give them? Make sure it’s something you love because it’s not likely you’ll be making a lot of money.
Toot your own horn for a minute. What’s the one thing most responsible for your success? My strong work ethic.
If you could change careers for a month, what would you do? I would stay in sales, but in a different industry.
What really annoys you? Laziness.
What are some things that you like to do when you’re not working? Spend time with my family, ride horses and exercise.
Give me a bit of trivia about yourself that most people probably don’t realize. Most people don’t realize that I’m married to Bill McConnell who has been with Buck Jones Nursery for over 25 years.

Just want to say that Julie is one of the best salespeople I have encountered in ANY industry. I have worked with her for over 5 years and she always returns my calls and emails with a smile! THANK YOU Julie!
Thank you so much Suzanne!
I agree, Julie is knowledgeable and always willing to help. She picks out the best quality materials. She is always patient with me too.
