In celebration of Buck Jones Nursery’s 40th Anniversary, we are highlighting our wonderful employees. Some are new and some have been with us for many years. We hope that by learning more about our history and our employees, our mission will be made clear.
What was your first job in the green industry? I spent time doing lawn maintenance for a few seniors from our church in Mobile, AL.
What’s the biggest challenge in your career been? Learning to work with all types of personalities has been challenging.
Who are some of the people who have influenced your career? My Dad. He has always challenged me to give my all to make my employer successful. He taught me to reach for the sky. Mr. Buck Jones taught me a lot about how to treat people by his example.
What do you consider your biggest career success to date? Growing the Buck Jones allied division.
If you had to do it over again, what would you do differently? I would have gotten a minor in business and learned Spanish.
If you had to pick the part you love most about your career, what would it be? Every day is different and brings new challenges. Being able to work outside and helping people solve problems are fulfilling.
How about your least favorite part? Adjusting to the busy and slow seasons.
If someone you know was going to be entering the green industry today, what advice would you give them? If you can, get a degree early in life and find an older person in the business who can and will invest in you.
Toot your own horn for a minute. What’s the one thing most responsible for your success? The good Lord’s hand.
If you could change careers for a month, what would you do? I would own and operate a Chick-fil-A.
What really annoys you? When people don’t keep their word.
What are some things that you like to do when you’re not working? I love to spend time with my wife and two kids, work in the yard, play drums and help grow our church.
Give me a bit of trivia about yourself that most people probably don’t realize. I was born in Louisiana.
